We are really excited to announce that we are holding a series of talks: “Living gracefully on this planet” surrounding archaeology, nature & engaging with the countryside.

Noted speakers, will be exploring nature in the local area and Sullington through the ages in the beautiful 16th century Old Workshop.

To kick us off, with our first event, we have the brilliant James Sainsbury and Dr Tony Whitbread. Both are highly esteemed in their areas. Book tickets here.

James Sainsbury: “Archaeology of the Sullington Downs”

James will talk to us about the chalk grasslands and the lives that have been before us that define the landscape of Sullington Downs. There is evidence on Sullington Hill that humans could have resided here from as long as 6,000 years ago. Join as James takes us on a deep dive of the history that connects us with the landscapes that we know and love.

James currently works for Worthing Museum and holds several walks in the local area, surrounding archaeology. He recently led a dig in Burpham with very interesting results. James knows the history of the local landscape like the back of his hand!

Dr Tony Whitbread: “Shouting about Nature”

After 27 years of working for the Sussex Wildlife Trust, 12 as Chief Executive, Tony Whitbread is now President of the Trust. He also chairs for the South Downs Network and was a very early advocate for rewilding. Tony will take us through the local landscape and engage with natural features along the route. Tony’s talk revolves around solutions and feeling engaged with the beautiful nature that surrounds us at Sullington. Small choices make big impacts and we can all feel empowered to make a step in the right direction.

Each speaker will talk for roughly half an hour. There will then be a joint Q&A session and we’ll be providing yummy tea and cake afterwards. We are really excited to host both speakers and we know this will be a really fun and informative afternoon.

The talks will take place in our cafe space at The Old Workshop. There will be no reserved seating.
